Meet My Mentor

My ISM Mentor is Hao Tian, a Graduate Research Assistant at Southern Methodist University.

Hao was born in Beijing, China and had lived there for more than 20 years. He received the Bachelor of Chemical Engineering in Beijing University of Chemical Technology. After that, he joined Prof. Peng Tao’s lab at Southern Methodist University to pursue a Ph.D. in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry. His research mainly lies in machine learning and molecular dynamics simulations. He focuses on: (1) decipher protein allostery through machine learning based methods; (2) understand protein conformations through artificial intelligence. He has published five first-author papers and gave several talks on national conferences and university seminars. He won the SMU Research Days Dean's Award and Graduate Research Assistant Award in 2021. To advance his computer science knowledge, he is also pursuing an online Master of Computer Science at Georgia Tech. He joined Meta (Facebook) as a software engineer intern in machine learning in the summer of 2022.

I am very grateful to have Hao as my mentor. He has provided invaluable guidance with my subject, including suggesting ideas for my research and taking the time to review my original work along the way. Without him, my research and learning would not have been nearly as fulfilling.

Update: Hao earned his Ph.D. in 2023! Congratulations!
