Over the past couple of weeks, I enjoyed spring break, heard back from some colleges, and attended ISM Research Showcase, while preparing for Final Presentation Night. Over the break, I had a lot of fun around Texas and learned some things at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Seemingly as soon as we came back to school, we were under the bright lights of The Star for Research Showcase. It really helped to have practiced presenting to other Wakeland students in January because I felt confident in delivering my spiel and explaining the importance of my research ($2 billion over 15 years for drug discovery!). I’m glad Mrs. Dotson, my former AP Chemistry teacher, was able to make it, and I’m happy so many people whom I knew and didn’t know stopped by—and that they thought I did a good job explaining my work! Last Friday, I also finished my FPN invites after slightly modifying them from last year—I can’t believe I’ll have to start distributing them soon. Over the weekend, I went to the Dallas Opera for the first time to see Cosi Fan Tutte: yet another way I've been seeking to engage with the arts during my senior year.
This week, I will need to quickly finish the code portion of my final product before creating a scientific poster. Hopefully, meeting with my mentor tomorrow will help bring clarity to this process. I also plan to create FPN programs (thank goodness I have last year’s to look at) and start preparing my final speech soon. It feels unreal that Showcase just happened and that the end of the year is approaching so fast. Nevertheless, I’m thankful for the opportunities I’ve had through this course, and I’m excited to continue learning through the rest of ISM and beyond.
