This past week I went on my second interview, continued my original work, and attended the ISM Business Symposium. My interview was with the Head of Data Science and Analytics at Nokia, and he provided significant insight for me into how relationship discovery is conducted. His team analyzes internal datasets that track errors and performance and external datasets like weather. I was surprised to learn that there isn’t much math involved and that there is a greater focus on designing the models and writing code. From here, I may seek another interview or ask one of the professionals I interviewed to be my mentor, depending on the distance I would have to travel to meet with them.
At the ISM Business Symposium, I got the chance to network with peers from other schools as well as with professionals from a diverse range of fields. I learned about interviewing skills, as well as the importance of mental health. I feel the latter is very important since some careers expect you to put in extra effort, and so it’s important to avoid burnout. Overall, the symposium was very enjoyable. Although next week will be very short, I’m looking forward to making progress on the models for my original work and writing out the valuable information I received from my interviews in interview assessments.
