This past week I began to get started with ISM work again after my intro speech. I scheduled a meeting with my mentor for this Friday, as well. I’m looking forward to seeing him again after the summer. I’ll get to talk to him about the progress of the ADMET manuscript we worked on last year, plus about the ACS Conference he attended this August. I need to figure out what I’m going to do for my original work, so I’ll have to discuss that with my mentor too. I’m thinking about working with a different set of datasets or maybe a different area of computational chemistry. Last year, I worked with ADMET modeling, but I could work with protein modeling this time around. This week, I need to work on my interview questions and my career outlook assessment. I’ll probably have to examine data for an adjacent field like chemical engineering or applied ML engineering, since occupational data for computational chemistry are scarce. It will certainly be a challenge to be productive in my ISM class with all of the distractions, but I’m also working on being more productive with my time in general. I’m excited for a great start to the year—hopefully one with a lot of learning and creating!
