This past week I started my original work display board, continued work on my toxicity prediction model, and started creating slides for my original work presentation. Having a plan already in place was definitely helpful for the display board, even if I ended up changing my color scheme. It made it easier for me to start cutting and putting things together, but as someone who isn’t too design-savvy, it felt like there were lots of decisions to make: how should I frame the paper? what kind of lettering should I use? Regardless, the board isn’t as stressful as I expected it to be—I think it’s fairly simple overall. I discussed ideas for my final product with my mentor, and I decided that I’ll likely be explaining my process for creating a machine learning model to predict toxicity. To do that, I might make a scientific poster, or even write a paper and attempt to have it published if the results are good enough, as my mentor suggested. The process of creating the model is complex and involves a lot of trial and error. It can be confusing, but I’m glad to be doing it to mimic what a professional in the field would spend their time on. This week, I’ll likely be working on my next presentation in class—lots to do!
