Last week, I worked on my interview assessments and continued work on my original work. I found that doing the interview assessments was a good way to summarize and reflect on the things I had learned from the professionals I interviewed. Going forward, I plan to find another expert to interview, probably someone who has a different position. That way, I can gain a greater understanding of the field and meet more professionals who could potentially be a mentor for me.
This past week, I encountered some roadblocks with my original work in terms of my understanding of writing machine learning models in code. Because of this, I’m focusing my research on understanding how to program certain models that will prove useful when dealing with more complex structures like molecules or simplified versions like molecular fingerprints. I still feel that I’ve learned a lot about designing models for predicting chemical properties, especially in terms of using the relevant libraries, tools, and datasets to simplify the process. Last week was quite busy for me with my other extracurriculars, so I didn’t get as far as I wanted to with everything, but I still think I accomplished a fair amount. I’m looking forward to progressing with my original work next week.
