This past week I worked on my annotated bibliography and sought out professionals to interview. Most of my articles ended up being about various aspects of how graphs are encoded for machine learning representation. I hoped to diversify more, but graphs are a popular research topic right now, and they will probably be part of my work this year, whether I do ADMET prediction or something else. On the interview side, I unfortunately did not secure an interview with one SMU professor that my mentor recommended. I understand that professors are busy, though, so that just means I’ll reach out to other local faculty. It should be easier this year because I’m not limiting myself to computational chemists.
Coming up this week, I need to find articles for my second annotated bibliography—I’ll try to find another area to research. Hopefully, I’ll also make good progress on pursuing interviews this week, and I intend to discuss with Hao my project for this year because starting early will help me surmount the mountain of code I’ll likely have to learn and apply in addition to the bigger-picture research for ISM. If I find time between everything else, I could even study some machine learning to better prepare for later. This week, I’m looking forward to being productive and hopefully having a less busy weekend.
