Snow Week!

It turns out that we were destined to have some snow! Aside from two and a half periods on Monday, I spent most of last week at home, which was a nice punctuation in the winter doldrums. Between sharpening my poker skills and watching the musical Mamma Mia!, I completed a research assessment on drug discovery, which I found rather interesting. Chemists have a lot of tools at their disposal to navigate pharmaceutical chemical space, and I look forward to seeing how it evolves with better technology. Though I didn’t make much progress on my final product, I did work on my original work speech. During my unforeseen holiday, I watched an MIT lecture that I’d been saving for a long time called How to Speak by Professor Winston. In it, he shared some wonderful advice about preparing presentations, incorporating props, and overall being an engaging speaker. After that one hour, I felt motivated to reform my original work speech, complete with a knowledge promise, clean slides, props, and more. I’m grateful that his lecture was available for free online—I just wish I’d seen it last year! Thankfully, I have some more time to prepare my talk. This week, I’ll be doing just that, while also working on another research assessment and my final product.
