This past week, I continued to code my original work and met some of Dr. Tao’s other undergraduate and graduate students. I also performed in the Orchestra Winter Concert, my favorite performance of the year.
Last Thursday, I drove to Bellagreen in Dallas for lunch with the Tao lab group. My mentor came with his girlfriend Xi, and I met Sian and Jonathan. It was interesting to hear about everyone’s future plans as they pursued postdoc research or career opportunities in industry. I also got some good advice for college—Dr. Tao introduced me to the SMU major of biophysical sciences, which encompasses the natural sciences, mathematics, and programming. I’ve since been looking for this major at the universities I’m applying to—perhaps I’ll study it. As I apply to colleges, being able to submit research is exciting, but often I’m left with more questions than answers about the process, including author rights and letters of recommendation. I hope to be finished with my applications as soon as possible.
This week, I’m looking forward to having completed my original work, and I hope to have my mentor Hao look over my contribution. I would also like to continue developing this project into the second semester, even if I don’t entirely achieve the goals I proposed before the break. There are now only two weeks left until Winter Break, and I’m excited for our etiquette lunch.
